Chicago Cab

If New York City is the city where it is hard for taxi takers to find an available taxi, Chicago is the city where it is hard for taxi drivers to find available taxi takers.
This city has a taxi surplus. They are everywhere and a soon as you dare to look on the streets at least one taxi driver will blow the horn or will start yelling at you. In the morning, when I step out of my building, as soon as I put my foot at the pavement, a taxi slows down and gives me the desperate "do you need a taxi?" look.
Sometimes I feel like if I was in the Grand Bazaar with people around me offering leather pillows.

Meeting and the club

These are some pictures of the AIESEC Northwestern meeting at our place last weekend. Afterwards some of us went to Blu.
You see those "cool" necklaces everybody is wearing? Well, they are from Argentina, designed and produced by a friend of mine. Entirely made of buttons. The good part, they are on sale. Just ask for them. An item every nomad has to have.

Chela beats Hewitt

Chela beats "Mr. Come On" in the Australian Open

"It had been one round later in last year's Open that the infamous spitting incident occurred, Chela having taking exception to Hewitt celebrating his mistakes in a tense fourth set. There was no ugliness last night, not even a "C'mon", just a tight, intense and often dramatic contest on a steamy summer night."

Chicago International Film Festival Session 2

Monday 01/23/2006 8 pm
Tango Feroz, la leyenda de Tanguito (1993)

Directed by: Marcelo Piñeyro
Produced by: Claudio Pustelnik, Katrina Baylonas
Starring: Fernan Mirás, Cecilia Dopazo, Imanol Arias, Hector Alterio
Country: Argentina

Rock singer Jose Alberto Cruz, nicknamed Tango, is the young man whose music and rebelliousness inspire a generation during the late 1960s in Buenos Aires. Charismatic and sexy, Tango draws hoards of young people to steamy underground nightclubs by singing of love and freedom, loyalty and peace. Tango shares the activist views of the students, but he is the product of the barrio, where persecution and torture are a way of life. While being detained by the police for his participation in a student demonstration, Tango meets Mariana, a student committed to freedom but tied to her bourgeois past. Overcoming their class differences, Tango and Mariana fall in love, only to be dealt a devastating blow when the chief of police tries to use Tango as a pawn in his battle to uncover the leaders of the growing youth movement. Despite the brutality and despair of his prison experiences, Tango bravely fights on, living in the hope of being free and reunited with Mariana.

Tonite 8 pm showing "Here we are"

Executive Producer Dávid Čorba (Michal's brother)
Country: Slovakia

SYNOPSIS
After the World War II, the Krnáč family moved from Central Slovakia to Sub-Carpathian Ukraine. After a rather controversial accession of this region to the Soviet Union, they fell in a trap with no way out. In line with Khrushchev´s decree, they were forced to settle down in Balgarka, a village in Kazakhstan steppe, where they spent over forty years. After the split of the USSR, they decided to move back to Europe. Sisters Tanya and Anna, Anna’s husband Dimitrij and their children, set out for their journey to Slovakia, a country they knew only from their parents´ stories.
In autumn 2000, Dimitrij Kiossyia’s family leaves their house in Kazakhstan steppe and heads for the country of their predecessors, Slovakia. After their arrival to the Slovak capital, they try to find jobs and accommodation, yet they are not very successful. They travel the country from the east to the west, and see only neglected villages, closed factories and high unemployment. For a short while, it feels as if they were not in Europe. After a long quest, they settle down in a small village in countryside. Parents start working in a local farm and children go to school. However, this new beginning brings more disappointment than joy. Family’s firm bounds are broken. Especially older family members feel uprooted and keep thinking of their lives back in Kazakhstan. And then one day, Dimitrij, the head of the family, decides to go back home…

I think I met you at WSC in your room party. You guys (trainees) are really crazy, especially that Polish trainee who was so drunk he keeps passing out and walking around like a pscyho. it's hilarious. You have pretty eyes. lol oh gosh. Hey I hope to see you guys in Mountain Mayhem on March 17-18 in Colorado or Reception Weekend in Austin in April or the Get GOLDEN in YOSEMITE in California in May Memorial day weekend.

Martin (the Polish guy) responds:

Ye ye ye First of all I was not passing out but falling over, 90% of the time intentionally cus i thought it would be funny to fall like Dr. Evil and then quickly get up and announce: 'I am OK'. Second, tell whoever wrote my NYE review to try drinking some quality Australian wine and then follow it by a glass-full of some "American Wine" California.. rightly called by the Britons as "Weak Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine" mixed with some red pigment. Even a
professional drinker would be confused... :)

"The master plan demanded girls looking as young as possible, with Lolita appeal and lesbian sex, exactly what lusty old men wish for according to Shapovalovs Internet research."

"In the meantime, the girls can safely admit that both are actually thoroughly heterosexuals, that their boyfriends are waiting for them in Russia and that they understand the rules of the popstar game just as well as their cunning producer."

WSC

The conference was a lot of fun. We met a lot of people from all over the US. Michigan, DC, Kansas etc. It was amazing how many people had been to Argentina or had plans to go there soon. I was also impressed by the amount of non-native spanish speakers. We all had a great time there. Thank you Farid and NU LC for the support.
